I knew David since I was 11 and a half years old, when I first started going to the Tnua. I do not remember how old I I was when he became the madrich of the boys' group, but until David left for the Hachshara, he was always around. I do remember distinctly once when we were working together in the Mazkirut that I complaint about not being able to finished certain jobs (can't remember what) and David observed that I should think of the things I did get done rather than worrying about those things that still had to be finished! Then, he left for the Hachshara in Hightstown, and the next time I saw him was at Kibbut Dvir. While I lived in Israel, with only one day shabbat, I don't think I visited Dvir much: I do remember being there when my mother visited us and of course we went to Dvir. I better remember visiting Dvir once I lived in New York, and I would not have left Israel without going to Dvir, and of course, staying with Yaffa and David, who always made me feel welcome! I am sure that most of us feel very proud of David and what he did: first, I used to compare David and Yaffa's children to those children I knew at my kibbutz, and wonder what the Rots did (and parents in my kibbutz couldn't/didn't do) that their children were so sweet and nice! Another reason to be very proud of David was in his role bringing so many Cuban Jews to Israel! I don't want to use all the space in the site for myself, so will end now, by writing that David will be missed, but he has left his mark in many people's heart!

I AM TRYING TO DECIDE WHETHER TO WRITE IN ENGLISH OR IN SPANISH. SPANISH IS OUR MOTHER TONGUE, BUT ENGLISH AS WELL, AND IVRIT IS FULL OF MISTAKES. I FEEL HONOURED AND HAPPY TO BE AMONGST THE FIRST ONES TO SIGN THIS BOOK IN REMEMBRANCE OF OUR DEAR DAVID. I KNEW HIM SINCE HE WAS IN KINDERGARTEN IN MY MOTHERS SCHOOL (SEE PICTURE NO. 1 - IDA COHEN TARBUT SCHOOL) AND ALL ALONG THE YEARS HERE IN ISRAEL. I AM PRIVILEGED TO KNOW ALSO YAFFA FOR MANY YEARS EVEN BEFORE THEIR MARRIAGE, AND TO HAVE SEEN ALL THEIR WONDERFUL CHILDREN BORN, GROWN UP AND MARRIED. DAVID WAS NOT ONLY APPRECIATED AND LOVED BY EVERYONE, BUT I ADMIRED HIS INTENSIVE WORK IN THE KIBUTZ AND IN MAINTAINING AND BETTERING THE RELATIONS WITH CUBA DURING THE LAST YEARS. HIS MEMORY WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US AND I SHALL TRY WHEN ASKED HOW I AM, TO ANSWER THE WAY DAVID ALWAYS ANSWERED: "ENCANTADO DE LA VIDA" AND THUS REMEMBER HIM ALWAYS.....
